Product Overview

The most widely used brake fluid grade worldwide

DOT 3 brake fluid has been the global default for decades. It is the specified fluid for the vast majority of older passenger cars, virtually all commuter motorcycles and scooters, and most hydraulic clutch systems. Sinolook's formulation is a synthetic glycol-ether blend engineered for consistent pedal feel, full seal compatibility, and stable performance across the full service interval.

Manufactured at our IATF 16949:2016 certified plant in Nan'an, Fujian since 2000, and independently verified by ABIC Testing Laboratories, Inc. in the United States, Sinolook DOT 3 brake fluid meets all four major international standards: FMVSS 116, ISO 4925 Class 3, SAE J1703, and GB 12981 HZY3 — with AMECA notification number #230611.

🌍

Universal compatibility

The default specification for most pre-2006 vehicles globally. Compatible with all DOT 3 / DOT 4 hydraulic brake and clutch systems using SBR or EPDM seal materials.

🔥

Margin above FMVSS minimum

Typical dry ERBP of 222 °C — 17 °C above the FMVSS 116 minimum of 205 °C. Stable wet ERBP of 151 °C exceeds the 140 °C requirement.

🛡️

Seven-metal corrosion verified

Tested compatible with tinned iron, steel, cast iron, aluminium, brass, copper, and zinc per ISO 4925 §6.5 — well within the ±0.2 mg/cm² standard limit.

⚙️

Brake & clutch dual-use

Suitable for both braking and hydraulic clutch actuation — the single fluid covers two systems in most manual-transmission vehicles using DOT 3 specification.

Recommended Applications

Where Sinolook DOT 3 brake fluid is used

DOT 3 is the foundational brake fluid grade — covering an enormous installed base of older vehicles, plus the majority of two-wheelers and hydraulic clutch systems worldwide.

🚗
Older passenger cars (pre-2006)

The default specification for most cars built before 2006, including many vehicles from major Asian, European and American manufacturers still in active service.

🏍️
Motorcycles & scooters

The universal choice for commuter motorcycles and scooters. Most two-wheeler manufacturers worldwide specify DOT 3 or DOT 4 — Sinolook DOT 3 covers the lower specification cleanly.

⚙️
Hydraulic clutch systems

Many manual-transmission vehicles use the same fluid for clutch actuation as for braking. Sinolook DOT 3 is suitable for any clutch reservoir marked DOT 3 or "brake and clutch fluid".

🛻
Classic & vintage vehicles

Older classic cars with non-ABS brake systems typically require DOT 3. Compatible with the natural rubber and EPDM seals used in vintage hydraulic systems.

🚐
Light commercial & fleet

Fleet maintenance for light delivery vans, taxis and shared-mobility vehicles where the original specification calls for DOT 3.

🏭
Industrial & off-highway

Forklifts, agricultural equipment, small construction machinery with hydraulic brake systems specifying DOT 3 grade.

Note: Always check the brake fluid reservoir cap on the master cylinder for the manufacturer's specification. Never use a fluid grade lower than specified. Upgrading from DOT 3 to DOT 4 is safe and requires no system flush.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is DOT 3 brake fluid used for?
DOT 3 brake fluid is the most widely used hydraulic brake fluid worldwide. It is the standard fluid for older passenger cars, motorcycles, scooters, and hydraulic clutch systems where the vehicle manufacturer specifies DOT 3. Sinolook DOT 3 transmits pedal force to the brake calipers in disc and drum brake systems and is fully compatible with conventional rubber seals.
Can DOT 3 be used as a clutch fluid?
Yes. Hydraulic clutch systems in many manual-transmission vehicles use the same fluid as the brake system. If your vehicle's clutch reservoir is marked "DOT 3" or "brake and clutch fluid", Sinolook DOT 3 is the correct choice. Always check the reservoir cap or owner's manual for the exact specification.
What is the difference between DOT 3 and DOT 4?
DOT 4 has higher boiling points than DOT 3 (Sinolook DOT 4: 250 °C / 160 °C vs Sinolook DOT 3: 222 °C / 151 °C). Both are glycol-ether based and fully compatible — you can safely upgrade from DOT 3 to DOT 4 without flushing. Never downgrade. Older vehicles (typically pre-2006) usually specify DOT 3; modern vehicles with ABS or ESP usually specify DOT 4. Read our full DOT 3 vs DOT 4 comparison.
Can I mix Sinolook DOT 3 with other brake fluids?
Yes — within the glycol-ether family. Sinolook DOT 3 is fully compatible with DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 4+ and DOT 5.1 brake fluids from any manufacturer meeting FMVSS 116 or ISO 4925. It must never be mixed with DOT 5 silicone brake fluid, which is chemically incompatible.
Is DOT 3 suitable for vehicles like Honda, Toyota or older passenger cars?
Yes — DOT 3 is the most common brake fluid specification for older passenger cars worldwide, including many Japanese, European and American makes built before 2006. Always check the brake fluid reservoir cap on the master cylinder for the exact specification. If the cap shows "DOT 3" or "DOT 3 / DOT 4", Sinolook DOT 3 is suitable.
What standards does Sinolook DOT 3 meet?
Sinolook DOT 3 is certified to four major international standards:
US FMVSS 116 — AMECA notification #230611
ISO 4925:2020 — Class 3
SAE J1703
GB 12981 HZY3 — China national standard
Independent test reports are issued by ABIC Testing Laboratories, Inc. in Fairfield, New Jersey, USA. Manufacturing operates under IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 quality systems.
What is the shelf life of unopened DOT 3?
Sealed Sinolook DOT 3 has a shelf life of 24 months from the production date when stored in original containers, away from direct sunlight, at 5 – 30 °C. Once opened, glycol-ether brake fluid begins absorbing atmospheric moisture (hygroscopy), which lowers its boiling point — opened containers should be used within 12 months.
What is the minimum order quantity for Sinolook DOT 3?
Standard MOQ is 1 × 20'FCL, approximately 18–20 metric tons depending on packaging configuration. Smaller trial orders may be accepted for OEM and private-label customers. Bulk shipment in flexitank or ISO tank is available for orders 20 tons and above.
Does Sinolook offer OEM and private-label DOT 3?
Yes. Sinolook offers full OEM and private-label service: custom label design, custom bottle and drum colors, custom packaging sizes from 250 ml to 200 L, and bulk supply. Lead time is typically 25 – 35 days from artwork approval. Contact sales@sinolook.com with your label artwork and packaging requirement.
