What is white oil?
White oil (also called white mineral oil or liquid paraffin) is highly refined paraffinic mineral oil that has undergone severe hydrotreatment to remove virtually all aromatic compounds, sulphur and nitrogen. The result is a colorless, odorless, tasteless and chemically inert oil. White oil is used in plastics, textiles, rubber, cosmetics, personal care products and many industrial applications where chemical inertness and purity are required.
What is the difference between industrial white oil and refined white oil?
Industrial white oil (Sinolook BASE OIL 5#, Industrial 68#, 100#) is suitable for non-food, non-cosmetic industrial applications: plastics processing, textile lubrication, rubber softening, PVC plasticization.
Refined white oil (Sinolook WHITE OIL 1# and 2#) has lower sulphur, lower polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH below 0.1 cm UV absorbance), and lower heavy metals — making it suitable for more demanding applications such as cosmetic and personal care formulations, subject to customer qualification testing.
Are Sinolook white oils USP or FDA certified?
Sinolook white oils are produced to meet typical technical specifications similar to USP white oil parameters — including PAH limits, heavy metals control and chemical inertness.
However, Sinolook does not currently hold third-party USP, FDA 21 CFR or NSF certification documents for these products. Buyers requiring formally certified pharmaceutical-grade or food-contact white oil for end-product compliance should consult dedicated certified suppliers (such as Sonneborn, Sasol or Petro-Canada) and conduct their own qualification testing for their specific end-application.
Which Sinolook white oil grade should I choose?
Choose by viscosity and purity requirement:
• BASE OIL 5# (KV100 = 4.9) — light industrial use, white oil precursor
• Industrial 68# (KV40 = 64.5) — PVC plasticizer, textile lube, rubber softener
• Industrial 100# (KV40 = 101.4) — heavy plasticizer, heavy industrial
• WHITE OIL 1# (KV100 = 2.7) — light cosmetic carrier, baby oil, personal care
• WHITE OIL 2# (KV100 = 4.4) — medium refined cosmetic, lotion base, sunscreen
For cosmetic and personal care use, customer qualification testing for the specific end-product is recommended.
What test parameters do Sinolook high-purity white oils control?
WHITE OIL 1# and WHITE OIL 2# are tested for:
• Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH UV absorbance) <0.1 cm — ASTM D2008
• Lead content <1.0 mg/kg — ASTM D3237
• Heavy metals as Pb <10 mg/kg
• Arsenic content <1.0 mg/kg — ASTM D4951
• Water-soluble acids and alkalis (none detected)
• Readily carbonizable substances test passes — ASTM D565
• Solid paraffin content controlled — ASTM D5972
Detailed batch COA available with each shipment.
Can white oil be used as a food contact lubricant or food additive?
Food contact and food additive uses are regulated by specific certifications (FDA 21 CFR 172.878, 21 CFR 178.3620; NSF H1; EU Directive 2008/84/EC). These require third-party certification specific to each batch and supplier.
Sinolook white oils do not currently hold these formal food-contact certifications. For food-related applications, please consult dedicated FDA/NSF-certified white oil suppliers. We can supply our refined grades for non-food applications and for customer formulation testing.
How is Sinolook white oil packaged?
Industrial grades (BASE OIL 5#, Industrial 68#, 100#) ship in:
• 200L drums (80 per 20' container) — standard steel
• Flexitank (24 MT per container)
• ISO tank (20–22 MT)
• Bulk vessel for large orders
Higher-purity grades (WHITE OIL 1#, 2#) ship in:
• New sealed 200L drums (preferred to prevent contamination)
• 1000L IBC totes
• Dedicated clean ISO tanks
Bonded storage at Yingkou, Nantong and Guangdong in China, plus partner facilities in Singapore and Malaysia.
Can I request samples before placing an order?
Yes. Sinolook provides 500ml to 1L samples for laboratory evaluation and formulation testing. Sample requests are subject to courier cost. Email
sales@sinolook.com with the grade(s) and required quantity, along with your intended end-use so we can recommend the most suitable grade.
