High-TBN calcium sulfonate carries a large reserve of colloidal calcium carbonate, delivering maximum acid-neutralizing capacity for the most demanding engine and marine oils.
When an oil must neutralize strong acids over long drain intervals or on high-sulphur fuel, high-TBN calcium sulfonate provides the maximum base reserve per unit of additive. It is a core detergent for heavy-duty diesel engine oils and marine engine oils, where TBN demand is highest, and it delivers strong detergency to keep pistons clean under hard service. It is typically used with phenate and salicylate detergents to balance TBN, cleanliness and sulphated ash. It belongs to the sulfonate detergent family; for very high TBN marine applications it is often paired with overbased grades.
