Product Overview

The universal brake fluid for modern vehicles

DOT 4 is the most widely specified brake fluid grade worldwide — fitted to the vast majority of cars built since 2006. Sinolook's formulation is a synthetic glycol-ether blend engineered for consistent pedal feel, reliable ABS / ESP response, and resistance to vapor lock under sustained braking.

Manufactured at our IATF 16949:2016 certified plant in Nan'an, Fujian, and independently verified by ABIC Testing Laboratories, Inc. in the United States, Sinolook DOT 4 meets all four major brake fluid standards in the world: FMVSS 116, ISO 4925 Class 4, SAE J1703, and GB 12981 HZY4.

🔥

High thermal stability

Dry equilibrium reflux boiling point of 250 °C — 20 °C above the FMVSS 116 minimum — for resistance to brake fade in mountain driving, fleet duty, and warm-climate operation.

❄️

Low-temperature fluidity

Kinematic viscosity of 1,300 mm²/s at −40 °C ensures fast ABS valve response and consistent pedal feel even in extreme cold-climate applications.

🛡️

Seal & metal compatibility

Verified compatible with SBR and EPDM rubber seals plus all common brake-system metals — tinned iron, steel, cast iron, aluminium, brass, copper and zinc.

💧

Controlled hygroscopy

Wet ERBP of 160 °C protects pedal feel and stopping distance even when the fluid has absorbed atmospheric moisture during service life.

Recommended Applications

Where Sinolook DOT 4 is used

DOT 4 is the most versatile grade in the brake fluid family — covering the majority of road-going vehicles built in the last two decades, as well as hydraulic clutch systems and many motorcycle applications.

🚗
Passenger cars & SUVs

The standard fluid for most cars built since 2006. Compatible with hydraulic disc and drum brake systems on petrol, diesel, and conventional vehicles.

🛻
Light trucks & pickups

Suitable for daily-driver light commercial vehicles, including hydraulic clutch applications where DOT 3 / DOT 4 is specified.

🏍️
Motorcycles & scooters

Compatible with most modern motorcycles. The higher boiling point of DOT 4 over DOT 3 makes it preferred for sportier riding and aggressive braking.

🚌
Light commercial & bus fleets

Fleet maintenance for buses, vans, and light commercial trucks. Stable wet ERBP ensures reliable performance across full service interval.

🚜
Off-highway & agricultural

Construction, mining, and agricultural equipment with hydraulic brake systems operating in mixed thermal and dusty conditions.

⚙️
Hydraulic clutch systems

Many manual-transmission vehicles use the same hydraulic fluid for clutch actuation as for braking — Sinolook DOT 4 is fully compatible.

Note: Always check the vehicle owner's manual or the brake fluid reservoir cap for the manufacturer's specification. Never use a brake fluid of a lower grade than specified. Upgrading from DOT 3 to DOT 4 is safe and requires no system flush.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is DOT 4 brake fluid used for?
DOT 4 brake fluid is the standard hydraulic fluid for most modern passenger cars, light trucks, and motorcycles. It transmits pedal force to the brake calipers and is required for vehicles equipped with ABS, ESP, or stability control. Sinolook DOT 4 also serves as a universal brake oil for car aftermarket applications and is suitable for hydraulic clutch systems.
What is the difference between DOT 3 and DOT 4?
DOT 4 has higher dry and wet boiling points than DOT 3 (Sinolook DOT 4: 250 °C / 160 °C vs DOT 3: 215 °C / 155 °C), giving it greater resistance to brake fade under heavy use. Both are glycol-ether based and fully compatible — you can safely upgrade from DOT 3 to DOT 4 without flushing, but never downgrade. Most vehicles built since 2006 specify DOT 4 or higher. Read our full DOT 3 vs DOT 4 comparison.
Can I mix Sinolook DOT 4 with other glycol-ether fluids?
Yes. Sinolook DOT 4 is fully compatible with all other glycol-ether based brake fluids — DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 4+, DOT 4 LV, and DOT 5.1 — from any manufacturer that meets the FMVSS 116 or ISO 4925 standard. It must never be mixed with DOT 5 silicone-based brake fluid, which is chemically incompatible and will damage seals.
What standards does Sinolook DOT 4 meet?
Sinolook DOT 4 is certified to four major international standards:
US FMVSS 116 — AMECA notification #221045
ISO 4925:2020 — Class 4
SAE J1703
GB 12981 HZY4 — China national standard
Independent test reports are issued by ABIC Testing Laboratories, Inc. in Fairfield, New Jersey, USA. Manufacturing operates under IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 quality systems.
What is the shelf life of unopened DOT 4?
Sealed Sinolook DOT 4 has a shelf life of 24 months from the production date when stored in original containers, away from direct sunlight, at 5 – 30 °C. Once opened, glycol-ether brake fluid begins absorbing atmospheric moisture (hygroscopy), which lowers its boiling point — opened containers should be used within 12 months.
What is the minimum order quantity for Sinolook DOT 4?
Standard MOQ is 1 × 20'FCL, approximately 18–20 metric tons depending on packaging configuration. Smaller trial orders may be accepted for OEM and private-label customers. Bulk shipment in flexitank or ISO tank is available for orders 20 tons and above.
Does Sinolook offer OEM and private-label DOT 4?
Yes. Sinolook offers full OEM and private-label service: custom label design, custom bottle and drum colors, custom packaging sizes from 250 ml to 200 L, and bulk supply. Lead time is typically 25 – 35 days from artwork approval. Contact sales@sinolook.com with your label artwork and packaging requirement.
How often should DOT 4 be changed?
Most vehicle manufacturers recommend changing DOT 4 brake fluid every 2 years or 40,000 km / 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. In humid climates or under heavy braking conditions — mountain driving, towing, track use — more frequent changes may be necessary. The wet boiling point degrades as the fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. Read more in our brake fluid service interval guide.
Can I use Sinolook DOT 4 in motorcycles?
Yes — DOT 4 is widely used in motorcycles and scooters worldwide. Always check the brake fluid reservoir cap on your motorcycle for the manufacturer's specification. If it shows "DOT 3 or DOT 4", Sinolook DOT 4 is suitable. Sportbikes with aggressive braking demands may benefit from upgrading to DOT 5.1 for higher boiling points.
