FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are lubricant additives?
Lubricant additives are chemical compounds blended into base oil to enhance performance or impart new properties. They typically make up 5–30% of a finished lubricant but are responsible for the vast majority of performance characteristics — viscosity control, anti-wear, anti-oxidation, dispersancy, detergency, foam control and cold-flow improvement. The eight main families are detergents, dispersants, antioxidants, anti-wear / EP agents, friction modifiers, viscosity index improvers, pour point depressants, and antifoam agents.
What are the main types of lubricant additives?
Sinolook supplies 10 categories spanning the full additive toolkit:
Detergents: sulfonate (Ca/Mg/Ba), sulfurized alkylphenate, salicylate
Dispersants: PIBSI mono/bis/poly succinimide, borated variants
Antioxidants / Anticorrosion: ZDDP (primary/secondary/C8/hybrid), DBPC, alkylated & nonylated diphenylamine
Anti-wear / Friction modifiers: MoDTC, MoDTP, Mo amine, borate ester, TPPT
VII: PMA, OCP, hydrogenated styrenic
PPD: T866, T866A, KUNLUN T809
Antifoam: PDMS, silicone-free, compound
Specialty: LABSA, PIBSA, thiadiazole derivatives
What is the difference between detergent and dispersant additives?
Detergents are metal-containing (Ca, Mg, Ba) overbased compounds that neutralize acids and keep high-temperature engine parts (pistons, rings) clean. Dispersants are ashless (no metal) polymers — typically polyisobutylene succinimide (PIBSI) — that suspend low-temperature contaminants like soot and sludge in the oil. Modern engine oils use both: detergents at 2–8% and dispersants at 3–8% of the formulation.
Are Sinolook's additives suitable for API / ACEA / ILSAC specifications?
Yes. Sinolook supplies additive components used in formulations meeting API SP / SN PLUS / SQ, ILSAC GF-6, ACEA A3/B4, A5/B5, C2/C3, E6/E9 for HDDO, DIN 51524 part 1/2/3 for hydraulic oils, Dexron VI / Mercon LV for ATF, and API GL-4 / GL-5 / MT-1 for gear oils. We provide reference treat-rate guidelines and starting formulations, but final qualification testing (Sequence engine tests, bench tests, OEM approvals) is the responsibility of the lubricant blender.
What lubricant additive grades does Sinolook supply?
More than 49 individual products across 10 categories:
7 sulfonate detergents — Low/Medium/High/Overbased TBN Ca + Overbased Mg + Overbased Ba + Zn complex
3 phenate + 3 salicylate detergents — Low/Medium/High TBN
7 PIBSI dispersants — mono/bis/poly + borated + boron-phosphated + low-viscosity
4 ZDDP + 5 antioxidants — Primary/Secondary/C8/Hybrid ZDDP + DBPC + mixed phenols + polymeric phenolic ester + alkylated & nonylated DPA
6 anti-wear agents — MoDTP/MoDTC/Mo amine + TEGMEB + TPPT + dialkyldithiocarbamate ester
3 VII — PMA / OCP / HSD
3 PPD — T866 / T866A / T809
4 antifoam — PDMS / dimethylsiloxane ester / silicone-free / compound
4 specialty — LABSA / synthetic DABS / PIBSA / thiadiazole
Can Sinolook provide TDS, MSDS and COA documents?
Yes. Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS / SDS in GHS format), and batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) are provided for every product. Documents available in English and Chinese. Email sales@sinolook.com or message us on WhatsApp to request the latest revision — typical response within 24 hours.
What is the MOQ and what packaging is available?
Standard packaging: 200L drum (sample / qualification), 1000L IBC tote (pilot batches), flexitank (20 MT), and ISO tank container (~20 MT commercial). MOQ typically 1 drum for samples and 1 ISO tank for commercial supply. Global bonded storage network across strategic Asia-Pacific hubs enables fast delivery worldwide.
Does Sinolook export lubricant additives internationally?
Yes — Sinolook exports to over 60 countries from its global office network in Xiamen, Hong Kong, Singapore, Turkey and the United States. Most lubricant additives ship under HS Code 3811. We handle full export documentation including Certificate of Origin, packing list, commercial invoice, and dangerous goods declaration (UN MSDS) where required. Payment via T/T or L/C; CIF / FOB / DAP terms supported.
How do I request samples and start a qualification?
Email sales@sinolook.com with the additive type, target specification (API/ACEA/OEM), and your base oil type. We'll recommend the suitable grade(s), share TDS and a reference treat rate, and arrange a sample drum (typically 200L). WhatsApp +86 181 5036 2095 for fastest response. We can also send starting formulations for common applications on request.
